Photo Group and History Tour meet at Griston, 30th June, 2pm at Manor Court

This weeks photo and history tour is of Griston and will be led by Bridget Parks. Meet at Manor Court Car park at 2pm. see Google map below

Some of the locations in Griston the group will visit are shown above as they once where, the aim will be to visit these sites and photograph them today, and learn about some of the history of the village. Our guide Bridget is one of the members of the Griston Archive Group, that are collecting information on Griston and researching its history. I hope you will come and join us.

Come and help us make a visual record of the Wayland area

A new Wayland heritage photography group will be meeting every Wednesday afternoon during the summer at Wayland House, High St. Watton, from 2 to 4.30pm, starting on 12th May.

Each week the group will go out to different locations in the Wayland area, to explore and record the natural landscape and man-made heritage that make this area unique.

There are no fees, and the group is open to people of all abilities. You can bring your own camera or borrow one from the project. Those with more experience are encouraged to give support to the beginners. Guidance will also be available from guest photographers and the Wayland heritage officer.

As well as taking photographs members can learn some basic editing skills using Photoshop Elements, on equipment available in Wayland House.

The project already has a Flickr online photo group with 36 members, who have posted nearly 700 photographs. These can be seen on http://www.flickr.com/groups/wayland-heritage/. Basic membership of Flick is free, but you do not have to join to just look at the photographs.

First Heritage Drop-in Afternoon Today - Nov 18th - Wayland House 2-4 pm

The 'Capturing Our Wayland heritage' project is holding the first of four drop-in afternoons, before Christmas, today from 2-4pm. The other three afternoons are on 25th Nov, 2nd and 9th Dec. Pop-in to discover more about the project and pick up some tips on how to make the most of your digital camera to record your locality, or search the internet for information on your local heritage. If you have a topic you would like to research or a local story to tell which you would like to pass on to future generations we would be happy to help.

New Photographic Society Covering the Wayland Area

Capturing Our Wayland Heritage project is pleased to see the founding of a new photographic society in the form of the 'Watton & District Photographic Society'. They have a very well designed website which shows all the future workshops and events that they have planned, as well as a wonderful gallery of members work. The first meeting is on 8th September, visit their website for more information at http://www.wdpsbreckland.org The project is looking forward to working with them in the coming months to capture our Wayland heritage.
